MLS rivals will square off in the inaugural Central California Cup 

FRESNO, Calif. — The Fresno Fuego have announced the inaugural matchup for the Central California Cup as the four-time MLS Cup Champion LA Galaxy will face two-time MLS Cup Champion San Jose Earthquakes at Chukchansi Park on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. 

Tickets will go on sale Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. and will be available through the Chukchansi Park box office (open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), by calling 1-559-320-TIXS, or online at www.ticketreturn.com. “We’re ecstatic to bring two premier MLS franchises to Fresno for an exhibition,” stated Fresno Fuego GM Jeremy Schultz. “For fans to see this caliber of talent at Chukchansi Park is really a special experience and will give Central California fans an opportunity to see a MLS match in their backyard.” 

The preseason exhibition match will mark the first time two MLS franchises will play each other in the city of Fresno.  

The LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes combine to feature four players who were recently named by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the USA’s 2014 FIFA World Cup preparation camp. Representing the Galaxy is Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez, while Clarence Goodson and Chris Wondolowski were chosen from the Earthquakes.

“We look forward to taking on the San Jose Earthquakes in Fresno as we prepare for the 2014 MLS season,” said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. “The preseason friendly offers a chance for soccer supporters in the San Joaquin Valley to see California’s biggest clubs at Chukchansi Park.” 

“We’re excited to return to the San Joaquin Valley for another preseason friendly,” said Earthquakes President Dave Kaval. “I know we have a lot of Earthquakes fans in the Valley and this is a great opportunity to showcase our brand of soccer. We’re hoping to see a packed Chukchansi Park for this one.”

A 4:00 p.m. match between the Fresno Fuego and Earthquakes reserve team will precede the 7:00 p.m. Central California Cup between the Galaxy and Earthquakes. Tickets purchased for the Cup will grant access to the 4:00 p.m. match. Chukchansi Park gates will open at 3:00 p.m.
