Clubs loses out on division title by single point, looks to regain momentum in playoffs

FRESNO – The club closed out its’ 2017 regular season campaign Saturday in Ventura, drawing with Ventura County Fusion 4-4 with Renato Bustamante’s hat trick leading the Fuego. Fresno pushed for the winning goal late into the 2nd half but couldn’t find the breakthrough; a victory would have sealed the 2017 Southwest division title. Sunday, FC Golden State Force ran rampant over San Diego Zest 6-0, pipping the Fresno club to the title by a single point.

The Fuego will look to move forward, as the club enters the Western Conference semifinal Friday at 8pm against hosts FC Tucson, winners of the Mountain division. Tucson is led by University of Louisville midfielder Tate Schmitt, a 2017 PDL Top Prospect, and forward Moshe Perez, who bagged 12 goals in 12 appearances for the Arizona club during the 2017 regular season.

Fuego fans are invited to Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company Friday as the club has partnered with independent supporters group Fire Squad Fresno to host a playoff watch party. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.
