FUEGO PLAYS CHIVAS USA TO HARD-FOUGHT DRAW

Fuego Wraps Up A Solid Preseason Schedule Against MLS Teams

FRESNO CA –  If the exhibition games against MLS teams are any indication of things to come, Fresno Fuego fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the upcoming 2010 PDL season. After 3-2 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on February 27, the Fuego held Chivas USA, one of the top teams in MLS, to a scoreless draw before almost 5,000 fans this past Saturday at Chukchansi Park.

The history and rivalry between Fuego and Chivas USA continues to build. After a stunning 3-1 win over Chivas in November 2007 and a 4-0 defeat in March 2008, both teams took the field ready to compete. Chivas, with the exception of left-back Jonathan Bornstein and goalkeeper Zack Thornton, had its full squad available for head coach Martin Vasquez, including World Cup-bound midfielder Sacha Klestjtan.

Despite both teams having several scoring chances, the game turned to a very physical style of play, which included a total of five yellow cards and one red card awarded to the Fuego. The game ultimately ended 0-0.

The Fuego will now turn its attention to the PDL season, which will kick-off on April 24th with the Fuego facing the Hollywood United Hitman at Chukchansi Park at 7 PM. Opening Night will be presented by New York Life Insurance, a Fuego partner since 2007.
