FRESNO FUEGO BRING THE HEAT AS THEY SHUTOUT BYU COUGARS AT CHUKCHANSI PARK
Paul Islas enters in the second half and scores three goals in 29 minutes

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Fuego (2-3) defeated the BYU Cougars (5-2) 4-0 in front of 1,845 fans at Chukchansi Park Thursday night. The Fuego pressured BYU with a constant attack and possessed an unbreakable defense that limited the Cougars to few scoring opportunities. Paul Islas, who didn’t enter until the 60th minute, broke out for three goals in 29 minutes to lead the Fuego to victory.

Although he didn’t score a goal, Jose “Chiva” Cuevas assisted the first three goals of the night. His first came on a perfect lob to Abraham Campos, who headed it past goalkeeper Jake Peterson in the 21st minute to give the club a 1-0 lead.
Fresno protected the lead through halftime and received a second half surge when Paul Islas subbed in for Jonathan Colunga in the 60th minute.

Islas wasted no time making an impact as he recorded his first goal seven minutes onto the pitch on an assist from Cuevas. The two players worked together on another goal in the 79th minute when Cuevas fed Islas yet again. Playing at left mid-fielder through the first four games (zero goals), Islas switched positions tonight to attacking mid-fielder and was able to use the creative freedom within the position to his advantage.

Islas finished his hat trick performance with a beautiful goal in the 89th minute. JP Medina, who subbed in for Cuevas, raced down the right sideline and struck a perfect cross that Islas punched into the back of the net to make it 4-0. The three goals marked the first of the season for Islas.
