FRESNO FUEGO STAR SIGNS WITH MLS

Fuego Star Returns To Fresno for an Exhibition Match

FRESNO, CA – The Fresno Fuego announce today that former player Pablo Campos signed a contract with Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes and will return to Fresno for exhibition match on February 20.

The San Jose Earthquakes participated in the weighted Major League Soccer lottery and won the rights to Brazilian forward Pablo Campos. Campos had signed a multi-year contract with MLS and was assigned to the Quakes via the lottery. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This is a player we are familiar with and we believe that he can be a solid player at the MLS level,” said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. “He brings good size and has good feet. He also has shown a knack for putting the ball in the net.”

Campos, 25, most recently played in the Swedish Allsvenskan (premier league in Sweden) with GAIS Göteborg. He played in eight matches with GAIS in 2008. He made the jump to Sweden from the Fresno Fuego in the summer of 2008.

With the Fuego, he made 25 appearances and scored 32 goals over two seasons. In 2007, he was the league leader in goals with 18 and helped lead the Fuego to the league semifinals.

“We are so proud of Pablo, these are the stories that solidify what our organization represents,” said Fresno Fuego General Manager. “Although he will not be wearing home colors, we look forward to seeing him back on home turf.”

The Fresno Fuego will host Campos as an Earthquake in an exhibition match held at Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno, February 20 at 7:00pm.
