Tonight the Fresno Fuego hosted the Bakersfield Brigade at Chukchansi Park. Entering the much anticipated battle of highway 99, the Fuego’s record was 2-2-2, but they have yet to be defeated on their home turf.

Right from the opening kickoff, the play was physical with three yellow cards and multiple fouls in the first 25 minutes. Quieting the raucous crowd, Ken Taylor of the Bakersfield Brigade, scored in the 5th minute aided by a defensive breakdown. Nehemias Blanco of the Fuego nearly scored in the 20th minute on a free kick from 35 yards out only to be denied by the far post. Stymied through the first half the Fuego entered the locker room trailing 1-0.

The Fuego entered the second half with renewed energy and more aggressive play.  They quickly gained control of the game with more ball possession and numerous shots on goal. Early in the half, Orlando Ramirez, of the Fuego, struck a hard shot forcing the Brigade goal keeper to make a diving save. The Fuego had multiple opportunities to equalize with shots on goal by Orlando Ramirez, Adrian Alvarado, and Paul Islas. In the 88th minute, Bakersfield’s Adam Arteaga scored on a counter attack, deflating the Fuego’s efforts to tie the game.

The Brigade shifted their focus towards defense in the latter portion of the second half, camping in front of their goal and denying the Fuego’s offensive attacks. In the end, the Fuego fought hard only to be defeated for the first time at Chukchansi Park this season.

The Fresno Fuego’s next game is on Saturday June 13th at 7:00pm as they host the Los Angeles Legends at Chukchansi Park. General Admission tickets are only five dollars. For more information or to purchase tickets call 320-TIXS.
