FUEGO TIE WITH SECOND HALF HEROICS

Fuego comeback to tie after going down 4-0

FRESNO, CA. – Down 4-0 at Halftime, the Fuego battle back in heroic fashion. Playing in their second match of the weekend, the Fresno Fuego started the game versus the Lancaster Rattlers looking sharp. Controlling most of possession Fresno created several quality chances on goal. What seemed to be a game in which the Fuego had well in hand, they found themselves down 4-0 going into the locker room at halftime.

The players took the field in the second half to a quiet Chukchansi Park crowd, though things would quickly change. In the 54th minute, Jose Cuevas found Paul Islas as he beat his man down the right flank and buried his shot near post to put Fuego on the scoreboard. With the pressure on, the Fuego added their second goal as Jonathan Torres found veteran Eddie Gutierrez for his first goal of the season. In the 80th minute, new comer Cyprian Hedrick scored his first goal of his PDL career after receiving a pass from Gutierrez to put Fuego within one. In the 81st minute it was Paul Islas again to tie the game at 4-4.

With momentum on Fuego’s side, the Official made a controversial call in the 89th minute and awarded Lancaster with a penalty kick to give the Rattlers a lead once again. However, Fuego was not ready to lie down; they continued to apply pressure on the Lancaster defense. In the 90th minute, defender Devon Grousis put his head on ball and buried in the back of the net giving Gutierrez his third assist of the afternoon.

The Fuego will be back in action Friday, June 5th as they take on Orange County Blue Star in another exciting PDL matchup.
