VETERAN CORE RETURNS TO HIGHLIGHT 2009 ROSTER
A Solid Mix of Experience and Youth Make for an Anticipated 2009 Season
FRESNO, CA – The Fresno Fuego announce today that fifteen players commit to the 2009 PDL season. The list features 9 returning players from 2008 roster, 5 new promising players and 1 USL veteran.
Returning players Adrian Alvarado, Jaime Calvo, Gaston Cignetti, Devon Grousis, Ryan Kenny, Orlando Ramirez, Raul Rivera, Jesus Santiago and 2009 All PDL team member and assist leader Fabricio Codeceira look to provide a strong foundation for the 2009 season.
After playing in the USL First Division, Eddie Gutierrez returns to Fresno and provides experience and leadership to the roster. Gutierrez, part of the Fresno Fuego roster that made a strong run in the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup in 2003.
“We have a strong nucleus of returning players who will help guide our young team on and off the field,” said Head Coach Scott Alcorn. “I feel extremely confident in building a team around these nine returning players.”
The 5 new comers are featured by 2-time Fresno Bee High School Player of the Year and U.S. National Player Paul Islas, Roosevelt High School’s Victor Gutierrez, Farmersville standout Jose Cuevas, McLane High School’s Jesus Pinto and University of Louisville Freshman and former Bullard High goalkeeper Beau Diaz. These 5 young players look to add a spark to the 2009 roster and should have significant minutes for the 2009 season.
“I am eager to feature our young, local talent and showcase them in a league that is a springboard into a higher level of soccer,” says Alcorn. “We are fortunate to have a rich tradition of excellent talent right here in the Central Valley.”
The Fresno Fuego kicks off their 2009 Season on May 9th vs. the Los Angeles Legends at Chukchansi Park. Kickoff is at 7:00pm and gates open at 6:00pm. General Admission Tickets only $5.
