Inaugural Fresno Fuego Futbol Frenzy a Success Despite Weather
Club’s annual 7v7 tournament and unveiling of supporters club name a success
FRESNO, CA – The Fresno Fuego announced today that its Inaugural Futbol Frenzy sponsored by the U.S Army held at Chukchansi Park November 1st was a hit among the local soccer community. Despite the weather, it turned out to be a great day for soccer.
“This was a wonderful community event for us and our fans and I truly appreciate all who participated,” says Fresno Fuego General Manager Jeremy Schultz, “As the Fresno Fuego continues to try and build new ideas and programs to bring together a wider fan base, I look to my friends, soccer people and fellow ambassadors of the game I know and trust to help us grow.”
The Futbol Frenzy was 7 versus 7 soccer tournament featuring 8 teams with players over the age of 18. The games were played on a smaller sized field with 2- 25 minute halves. The tournament was not your typical soccer event, the games were played at an extremely fast pace with scores ranging easily in to double figures. Over 100 soccer players showed at Chukchansi Park to participate in the iron man event.
Among them was Former USA Olympic Captain Chad McCarty, “This is a great event with a lot of good competition,” says McCarty. “The Fuego should do this more often.”
McCarty’s team ended the tournament in second place losing to the Legacy in the finals. Legacy was made up of mostly former and present Fuego players who eased their way to become champions with an undefeated record.
At the end of the tournament the Fresno Fuego presented the name and logo of the Fuego’s new Supporters club. After months of online voting, The RED BATTALION topped the polls as the fan favorite.
The Fresno State Soccer Club have committed to becoming members of the RED BATTALION. “We are excited to be a part of the supporters club and ready to cheer on the Fuego,” says Fresno State Soccer Club President Sonny Bal.
