JUNIOR FUEGO OPEN 2008 SEASON ON SATURDAY

Flagship Program Of Fresno Fuego Community Fund Opens Second Season Of Play This Weekend In Clovis

FRESNO, CA – The Junior Fuego Soccer League will kick off its second season of existence with Opening Day Festivities on Saturday, September 13th at Mickey Cox Elementary School in Clovis. The schedule of events, which will include appearances by scorcher and Fresno Fuego, will begin at 1:45pm with games immediately following.

The Junior Fuego Soccer League is a product of the partnership between the Fresno Fuego Futbol Club and the Fresno Fuego Community Fund. The league is for children and young athletes with mental and physical disabilities. The organization currently boasts almost 100 participants, and was previously known as TOPS SOCCER. 2008 is the second season for the league under its current moniker.

“Soccer has emerged as one of the fastest growing sports in the nation due to grassroots efforts like this,” said Fresno Fuego General Manager Jeremy Schultz. “The Junior Fuego program gives us the opportunity to introduce the most popular sport in the word to children that may otherwise not have the chance to enjoy it.”

The Fresno Fuego wrapped up their 2008 game schedule with a semi-final loss in the PDL, but have a busy slate of off-season activities this fall. More details will follow in the coming weeks on how the Fuego have partnered with Telemundo for a very special twist on the traditional cornfield maze at Cobb Ranch.
